Erotic massage in a canal belt hotel, with the old house planned for
A room in a canal house on the Herengracht or the Keizersgracht is the picture many visitors carry of Amsterdam before they arrive. These hotels work well for an evening booked ahead, as long as the guest knows what an old house brings with it.
The ring of canals laid out in the seventeenth century, the Singel, the Herengracht, the Keizersgracht and the Prinsengracht, is lined with tall, narrow merchants' houses, and many of them are now hotels. Some fill a single house with a dozen rooms; others join several houses behind one front. They are full of character and often short of space, and the gap between a lovely stay and a cramped one is usually decided when you pick the room type at home.
Stairs and lifts
Canal houses were built with staircases so steep that furniture went up through the windows, on the hoisting beam still visible at the top of many facades. Some hotels have fitted small lifts; many have not. If your room is three or four flights up, tell her in the thread, and if the lift takes only one person with a bag, mention that as well.
Room sizes
Rooms at the front have the canal view and the tall windows; rooms at the back look over gardens and are often quieter. Sizes run from generous to very compact, sometimes on the same floor. For an evening with room to move around the bed, and above all for four hands, where two therapists need to reach the bed from either side, choose a larger room type or a junior suite.
Heating and water
Old houses can be draughty, and radiators under tall windows take a while to warm a room. Turn them up as soon as you come back. Bathrooms in converted canal houses are sometimes fitted into small spaces, so if the format you have in mind depends on the shower, check the photos for that room type before you book it.
The door on the canal
Canal-side addresses are simple to describe: the canal, the house number and the side of the water. At night the front doors of these hotels may close behind a bell or a code, so put the instructions in the thread with the room number once you have checked in. Arrival is forty to sixty minutes from her setting out, as everywhere in the centre, and the notes on planning around the room go further into space and warmth.
